Francisco Pizarro

Spanish conquistador born in the 1470s. He set sail to the Americas in 1502, along with 2,500 colonists. After crossing Panama, he became one of the first Europeans to see the West Coast of the Americas. Pizarro took 3 expeditions to the land of “Piru”, which was known as a gold rich land. He accompanied Diego de Almagro. In 1532, he led the conquest of Peru, and with the help of indigenous people, was able to conquer Cuzco, and in turn destroy the Incan Empire. After conquering the Incan people, he established the city of Lima, which is the modern day capital. Pizarro was killed by Peruvian people in 1541 (Francisco Pizarro).
